Foundational Beliefs

  1. God: Eternal, holy, creator, Savior, sustainer (Genesis 1:1; John 1:3;  Colossians 1:16-17).

  2. Trinity: The one God exists in three distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14). One God means that there is numerically one nature or essence composed of divine attributes. This is not an equal division of the nature of God into three persons or categories. It is the undivided nature belonging equally to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (John 10:30). Each member of the Godhead accomplishes specific things in God's overall plan. The Father established the plan. The Son became man to be the Savior of the world. The Holy Spirit reveals the plan and enables the believer to accomplish the plan. (Ephesians 1:1-4)

  3. Man: God's highest creation (Genesis 1:26-27).

  4. Angels: Superhuman spirit beings (Luke 15:10).

  5. Revelation: God communicated Himself and His word to mankind (John 1:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

  6. Volition: God gave mankind volition, the right and ability to make choices, good and bad (Acts 17:27, 30).

  7. Sin: Anything short of God’s standard (Romans 3:23).

  8. Judgment: God evaluates based upon His standard and punishes or rewards (Romans 2:16).

  9. Suffering: People, ideas, circumstances, conditions that are painful are part of suffering. There are two kinds of suffering: undeserved and deserved. Suffering is a result of the fall of mankind (Genesis 3:16-17; Romans 5:12; Rom 8.20-22).

  10. Grace: God freely blesses people. Unmerited favor (1 Peter 5:10).

  11. Eternal salvation: Salvation is through Jesus Christ, the Son of God; He removed the sin barrier (1 Timothy 1:15). Salvation is from faith alone in Christ alone.

  12. Faith: The inner conviction that what God said is true (Hebrews 11:1).

  13. Blessing: The theme of blessing in the Bible (physical blessing and spiritual blessing) emphasizes God acting for the well-being of mankind and the individual person (Genesis 12:2-3; Ephesians 1:3).

  14. Historical plan of God: God has planned for individuals, groups, and nations (Jeremiah 50:45).

  15. The daily Plan of God for the church (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  16. Christian Way of Life: God provides seven basic techniques for living the Christian life. They are Occupation with Christ (Hebrews 12:2), knowledge of the Word of God (2 Peter 3:18), Faith-Rest (1 Peter 1:7), Spirituality or living by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16), Prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and Ministry (1 Peter 4:10).

  17. The Future: God has a plan for future time and eternity (1 Peter 1:10-11).

  18. Pre-Tribulational Rapture: Christ will return to earth prior to the Great Tribulation to resurrect church age believers, take them home to heaven with him, and evaluate and honor them at the Judgment Seat of Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Corinthians 5:10).

  19. Great Tribulation: Between Christ's first and second comings there will be a time of blatant rebellion and rejection of God; during this time God will judge the earth (Zechariah 12:1-6; Matthew 24:9-39; Revelation 6-19).

  20. Millennium: When Christ returns to earth the second time, he will bring resurrected believers with Him, remove unbelievers from the earth in judgment, and imprison Satan; He will usher in Israel's long awaited kingdom; He will rule this kingdom from his temple in Jerusalem for a thousand years (Matthew 24:36-42; Isaiah 2:2-4; Ezekiel 36:24-30; Zechariah 14:9; Revelation 20:1-4).

  21. Righteousness: God is absolute righteousness, angels have innocent righteousness, mankind has relative righteousness, the believer has imputed righteousness and can produce divine good righteousness.
